About the event

The National Young Performer Awards 2024 will be held on 25-27th October in Palmerston North.

200 young soloist performing artists, aged between 15 and 21, as well as more than 1,100 Troupe dancers, will come from all over New Zealand to perform at the 2024 NYPA.

Soloist competitors will perform: Ballet, Tap Dance, Vocal and Pianoforte sections
Troupes will cover all dance genres from Hip Hop to Highland Dance and everything in between.

Each performer represents a PACANZ member society of which there are 69 across NZ and undergoes a rigorous selection process, performing to the specific required standards of their chosen art form. As with their sporting peers, it is an honour for young performing artists to be selected to participate in the NYPA for $60,000 in prizes.

Armistice Day (later known as Remembrance Day) is commemorated every year on 11 November to mark the armistice signed between the Allies of World War I and Germany to end the fighting. On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, there was a ceasefire and the guns fell silent.

Each year a service is held in Te Marae o Hine - The Square to remember and acknowledge the thousands of Kiwis who fought and lost their lives during the Great War of 1914-18.

With a population of only one million in New Zealand at the time, 124,000 served in the First World War. More than 20,000 made the ultimate sacrifice and did not return home, including 898 from the Palmerston North area.

After the main service, guests are invited to a morning tea and a presentation at the Convention and Function Centre, beginning at 11:55am. Two new poppy sites will be announced during the presentation as part of the Poppy Places of Remembrance project run by the New Zealand Poppy Places Trust and the Royal NZ Returned and Services Association
