ABOUT PALMY BID
PALMY BID REPRESENTS YOU — OUR CBD BUSINESSES AND CITY CENTRE
Palmy BID (Business Improvement District) exists to support organisations within the CBD, striving to foster a safe and vibrant environment for businesses, local community, and visitors alike. We're an Incorporated Society, with a committee made up of ordinary people from a cross section of the business community representing the community and their needs.
By collaborating with businesses in the Palmy BID area, city authorities, and community members, we work to develop Palmy's CBD through thriving enterprises, safe public spaces, and a strong sense of community identity. We do this by delivering projects and services such as local placemaking, business facilitation and advocacy.
Palmy BID supports a range of initiatives designed to uplift our community. This creates an atmosphere that draws in and supports visitors, encouraging them to explore Palmy's unique offerings. In order to do this, we not only listen to the needs of our community, but we act upon them.
We engage with you, our businesses, locals, and visitors, to create meaningful connections. These connections lead to understanding what needs to be done, which then leads to us all supporting a shared goal of developing the Palmerston North CBD.

WHAT WE’VE DONE FOR YOU
Appointment & Funding of Night-time Safe City Hosts
The Safe City Hosts programme runs from Thursday to Saturday evenings in collaboration with the Police by providing City Patrols, and monitoring CCTV to enhance safety and create a point of contract for our businesses, and visitors to the city.
Representation on the City Safety Advisory Board
Palmy BID has a seat at the table to represent members of our community around safety and security concerns and opportunities. We have recently presented a new safety and security model to the SAB to be presented in the Council Chamber.
Survey Around Proposed Changes to Parking Technology and Parking Times
Palmy BID ran a survey on proposed changes in technology and parking times, and we presented it to the PNCC for feedback and decision making on the city parking framework.
Delivery of OPSEC Situational Safety Training for 40 Retailers in Partnership with PNCC
The delivery of OPSEC Situational Safety Training for retailers was intended to create a level of awareness and preparedness around safety and security, which we think is beneficial to trading environments.
Delivery of The Tertiary Sector Student Bus Tour
Palmy BID saw the opportunity for an annual combined provider tour, to welcome our new tertiary students to the city and educate them on all of our great destinations, venues, and activities in the CBD.
Cuba Street Re-Opening in Partnership with PNCC
Partnering with the PNCC, Palmy BID supported the re-launch of the opening of Cuba Street after infrastructure and roading development.

Rob sees Palmy BID as a tool to create a vibrant, connected City Centre where businesses, residents, and community groups can thrive, feel supported, and want to be.
MARK INMAN

Owner of Blacksheepdesign
Mark arrived in Palmy in 2008, from a 14-year marketing career in the UK home-building industry. After four years at Massey University, he took a role at Blacksheepdesign, and loved it so much that in 2015, he bought the company. As a founder member of Palmy BID, Mark is a huge advocate for Palmy and the opportunities it offers for doing business.

Unique Realty
Steve has been a proud Palmerston North resident since 1973, when he arrived as a student to attend Massey University for his diploma in Business Studies. He is the Co-owner, Company Director and Principal of Unique Realty Ltd (Professionals), as well as Associate Member of the Real Estate Institute of NZ (AREINZ). Steve sees the City Centre as the economic and social centre of Palmerston North and greater Manawatū region. He sees maintaining and enhancing the City Centre’s economic and social health & wellbeing as critical to the city’s ongoing success.
MELISSA BOURKE

Innes Dean
Melissa is a locally raised lawyer, specialising in family asset planning, trust advice, and estate management. She prioritises collaborative approaches, particularly for family trusts and charities. With a focus on seniors' well-being and autonomy, Melissa serves as a Notary Public and holds roles including Deputy Chair of NZ LAW Board and Director at Innes Dean Lawyers Limited. She is also part of Palmy BID, dedicated to enhancing our city's appeal for residents and businesses.
NUWYNNE TE AWE AWE-MOHI

Te Manawa and Rangitane o Manawatu
Nuwynne is based in Palmerston North and is of Rangitāne ki Manawatū, Ngāti Raukawa, Ngāti Kauwhata, Tūwharetoa, Ngāti Toa and Ngāti Apa descent, with over 20 years of experience working as an educator in Māori education and a community advisor in local government. She is a strong advocate of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and opportunities for tāngata whenua and represents iwi on various governance boards including as a Trustee on Te Manawa Museums Trust Board and Te Rangimarie marae. Nuwynne is passionate about building sustainable relationships and providing valuable insights and connections to grow capability within local communities.
VERNE WILSON

Coffee Club
Born in Palmerston North from a dairy farming family, Verne and his family moved into Palmerston North city 22 years ago, and have owned The Coffee Club for the past 14 years. He sees BID as a great place to support stakeholders and the local business community, recognising the importance of growing and developing the CBD as the heart of our city. BID is a valuable tool to achieve this and assist the PNCC governance.

As a business owner and member of the founding committee of Palmy BID, Bernice wishes to continue to serve the community and play an active role around the growth of businesses, business connections, and represent the people of the CBD. She sees the potential of creating a thriving, vibrant inner city where customers can relax, shop, and be entertained.
AMANDA LINSLEY

Manawatū Business Chamber
Amanda is the Chief Executive of the Manawatū Business Chamber, and brings extensive knowledge in the business sector, and affinity with the Palmy BID community to the committee. She has been involved in developing BID, and has a desire to see it evolve and enhance the heart of the city. Amanda has been a resident of Palmerston North for over 15 years, and now calls Palmy home.

Originally from the Southwest of England, Matthew moved to New Zealand in 1997. After residing in Wellington and Rotorua, he settled in Palmerston North in 2002. With experience in defence, hospitality, media, business development, governance, and contact centre management, Matthew has built extensive industry networks. Together with Palmy BID Team, he is passionate about creating an attractive, vibrant, and safe CBD that fosters thriving businesses, community connection, and positive outcomes.

Meg moved to Palmy when she was 5 years-old and has called it home ever since. Meg is a true-blue Palmy girl, dedicated to making our City vibrant and family-friendly. Meg holds a Bachelor in Applied Visual Imaging and has a keen eye for graphic design. Meg has experience working across a variety of industries, utilising her design & marketing skills and building her people skills along the way. Meg has held roles in the legal, medical and youth justice sector while also having worked actively for a number of not-for-profit/charity organisations.
ROBIN FISCHER

Robin was born and raised in Kenya and Hotel trained in Europe and has held extensive HR and management roles in hospitality internationally and nationally for more than 40 years, and settled in NZ in 1994 and has raised a family in Palmerston North, Robin was appointed as BID Development Manager in 2019 to assist in establishing the BID network for The Manawatu Chamber of Commerce and PNCC, the organisation was developed establishing a BID Board to represent all businesses within the CBD and Broadway. Robin continues to engage with all businesses as the Engagement Officer contact point for BID, enhancing the objectives and principals that the organisation stands for.
